These photographs, taken over the course of the year, are a visual diary of my pursuit of striped bass with a fly rod. The landscapes are the places I fish. The figure is me. I decided to combine two interests that absorb much of my dedication and effort: landscape photography and fly fishing. I wanted to maintain the documentary style of my art and suggest both the mundane and sublime moments of fishing.
I would like to say that no fish were harmed in the creation of this work. To be truthful, I can’t. I do my best to minimize stress to the fish. There are some scientists who would maintain that fish do not feel pain in the conventional sense of higher order mammals. I don’t know. I release them all. The hunter gene demands expression, and there’s no denying 500,000 years of ancestral human experience.
